Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences in brief

Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences (Mamk) lies at the heart of the beautiful Finnish lake district in South-Savo region. We are a modern higher education institution, offering high quality education and variety of different study fields. We have Degree programmes available at both Bachelor´s and Master´s levels.

Education system

The Finnish higher education system comprises of two parallel sectors: universities and universities of applied sciences / polytechnics. The universities emphasise scientific research and the teaching is based on theory. Universities of applied sciences/polytechnics are institutes of higher education based on the combination of theory and practise.

Mamk and Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences (Kymenlaakso UAS) comprise a strategic unit which has a common owner. Cooperation with Russia is one of our area of focus. More information about our

Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences serves the area of Eastern Finland with two campuses in towns of Mikkeli and Savonlinna:

  • Main Campus, Mikkeli
  • Savonniemi Campus, Savonlinna

In addition Mikkeli University of Applied sciences has offices for supporting services: Student Services, Library and Information Services, International Services and Administration Centre.

Fields of study

Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences has the following fields of study:

  • humanities and education
  • natural sciences
  • natural resources and the environment
  • tourism, catering and domestic services
  • social services, health and sports
  • technology, communication and transport
  • social sciences, business and administration

You can choose from 18 degree programmes, three of which are in English. There are over 720 new students starting in studies leading to a degree every year, and the total amount of students is about 4500.

Highly educated staff

There are approximately 400 staff members employed at Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences, of which 200 are full-time lecturers. About 40 of our staff hold a doctoral or licentiate degree.
