Mikkeli
There are many possibilities for spending active freetime in Mikkeli region. Mikkeli UAS has gym and sports hall which students can use free of charge. In addition, there is a wide range of club activities in sports, music and arts. Joining any of these groups is one way to get to know students from other study fields. The activities are free of charge/affordable and attendance is easy. Those who are interested in bowling can practice at the bowling hall at the Main Campus.
In winter time there are several possibilities for free time activities such as downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, skating and ice-hockey. The home games of the local ice hockey team Jukurit at Mikkeli Ice Stadium at Raviradantie are exciting.There is also opportunity for swimming, riding and workout. Forest area near the student accommodation serves as running or skiing track depending on the season. In summer students like hiking, fishing, swimming and canoening. Nice beach with a jumping tower is located near the student accommodation. Sauna evening is a tradition among the summer term students.
International Club organises many activities both in summer and winter like Christmas parties and sauna evenings with the possibility to go swimming in a hole in the ice. A trip to Lapland has been organised many times and visit to Lahti ski games is organised on request. Mikkeli has an active multicultural centre, Mimosa that provides many activities and social events for both foreigners and Finns. Mimosa organises classes in Finnish and English languages. They also have different clubs like Creative Music Club, Game Club and Gym. More information about Mimosa.
JääIce Tour 2012
Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences is organizing in co-operation with its partners winter sports –happening , called JääIce, to students. The tour starts from Savonlinna Tuesday 21.2, is in Mikkeli Wednesday 22.2 and ends to Pieksämäki Thursday 23.2. At the happening you can take part in various winter sports –activities such as: kick sled race, brush & ball, curling and snowshoe walking. You can also find good music, hot juice and the opportunity to participate contests at the event! The event is free and non-alcoholic.

Pieksämäki
Pieksämäki is a well planned small town and regional centre. You don´t have to go far to see and experience the wonders of nature. You can take long walks along the shoreline of various lakes around Pieksämäki. More information about leisure time activities in Pieksämäki region available here.
