Structure of the Studies
Annual Themes and Learning Outcomes
1st study year: Know-how of Building Blocks of the ICT Environment. Students understand the meaning of ICT in companies, adapt suitable study techniques and develop your communication skills. They are also able to use the computer as tool and can solve problems in computer environments. After the first year studies students are able to work in different kinds of ICT support task including help desks, ICT support centers, and application advising task forces.
2nd study year: Know-how of ICT Networks. Students learn the meaning of communication networks to businesses and are capable of planning, implementing and testing both Local and Wide Area Networks. Students learn the basic of object-oriented programming and deepen their skills in natural sciences. After the second year studies students are able to work in network related IT tasks both in wired and wireless environments.
3rd study year: Know-how of Secure ICT Systems. Students understand the importance of security in information systems and are able to apply their skills to implement secure network and server environments. Students also develop further their programming skills in different kinds of environments. After the third year studies students have required knowledge to work in IT environments where security is essential.
4th study year: Knowledge of ICT Developer. Students know how to apply their skills in finding solutions in the working life. They are capable of working and searching information independently, and they realize the trends of their own field.
The studies consist of common basic studies and professional studies as well as optional professional studies, optional studies, practical training and a Bachelor’s thesis.

International Studies
Part of the studies can be carried out at a foreign higher education institute that has a cooperation agreement with Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences. Students can also participate in the International Summer Term organizes by Eastern Finland Universities of Applied Sciences (where the language of instruction is English). International studies must be accepted by Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences before the student embarks on them.
